Our pets offer unconditional love and devotion to us during their lives and in return allow us to practice loving unconditionally. The loss of a beloved pet can be devastating and we at Sacred Shrouding feel that we should return this devotion and at the time of their passing we should honour our pets respectfully for their final journey home. Preparing and shrouding a beloved animal can give a deep sense of peace and a feeling that their life has been honoured lovingly; children particularly benefit from being involved in this ritual.
We offer support and guidance to meet the needs of the family and we encourage you to work with us during the washing, oiling and shrouding process and bring poems, toys and anything else to celebrate and honour the life of your beloved pet. We can advise you through the dying process, help with preparing their body and then take your pet to the animal crematorium or place of burial.
Stages:
Initial discussion: On the phone or in person to discuss your pet’s transition.
Euthanasia: We can advise and arrange compassionate visiting vets for euthanasia and can be present for your pet’s crossing
Shrouding: The shrouding ritual can begin immediately your pet passes or anytime within the next 72 hours. The body will be washed, oiled with sacred oils and then shrouded. All the family can participate in saying goodbye and this is a very healing transitional stage in the grieving process, especially for children.
Cremations: We can accompany you to the animal crematorium, where your pet will be laid in the chapel of rest before being cremated. We can also do this for you and return the ashes. Often, people like to keep their pets close and bury them in the garden. At this point we can honour your pet with a memorial service if appropriate.
We will fully support you at each step of your pet’s final journey.

My dog Caspar died of tumors and the vet basically euthanasied him and took him away. A few days later we got his ashes back, which we scattered. Had I have known about shrouding pets I would have kept Caspar at home and shrouded him. Your cat looks so beautiful and at peace and it seems to me to be the perfect way of honoring our friends and companions. I am going to tell all my friends about shrouding for their pets. Thank you and what a lovely site!
